Breaking Down Prymal’s Carb Content

As we said goodbye to the challenging year that was 2020, it's also time to put aside the poor health habits that many of us picked up this past year. One great way to usher in a happier, healthier 2021 is to monitor the carbs you consume.

Rather than simply calculating the total number of carbs in your diet, it’s becoming increasingly popular to count net carbs instead. But what exactly does the term “net carbs” mean?

Most carbs you consume are broken down, absorbed into your body, and cause a spike in blood sugar levels. These are referred to as net carbs.

However, some foods--such as vegetables, whole grains, and sugar alcohols (aka artificial sweeteners)--are not fully broken down in the digestive system, so it's almost as if they just pass right through your body. These carbs don't significantly affect blood sugar, so they are not counted as net carbs. Put simply, net carbs are the carbs that actually matter in your diet plan.

"Most carbs you consume are broken down, absorbed into your body, and cause a spike in blood sugar levels. These are referred to as net carbs."

Prymal contains erythritol, which is a sugar alcohol, so subtracting the 2g of that makes sense. The label also shows that Prymal has 0g fiber, so how does 5g of total carbs become 1g net carbs?

A four-teaspoon serving of Prymal includes 1g acacia and 1g chicory root to add flavor and promote improved gut health. Both of these ingredients are prebiotic fibers that count for the purposes of the above formula, but they do not qualify as “Dietary Fibers” under FDA standards. For this reason, they are unlisted. Subtracting this 2g of fiber and 2g erythritol from the total 5g carbs leaves you with 1g net carbs.

While the particular number of net carbs recommended under a keto diet varies from one person to the next, the typical suggestion is to consume no more than 20g to 50g net carbs per day.

Regular creamers will fill up a significant portion of your daily carb intake with just one cup of coffee.

For instance, a four-teaspoon serving of CoffeeMate has a whopping 4g net carbs. This means that if you’re aiming for 20g net carbs a day, you’ve just consumed 20% of your carbohydrate allowance for the day, after just waking up and starting your day.

With Prymal, you can enjoy your coffee guilt-free with plenty of carbs left to consume throughout your day. In addition to being keto-friendly, Prymal is also sugar-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and non-GMO.

Go ahead and enjoy your coffee with Prymal, keeping in mind that only one net carb gets counted!
